Color Core
A single color core mat can replace two mats while still offering a contrasting bevel color. Most mats have a white or cream core with colored surface so that the 1/16" bevel of an opening takes on the white or cream color. Alternatively color core mats have a pastel or black colored core and colored surface. With these color core mats, the 1/16" bevel of an opening takes on the pastel or black color of the core. Sometimes that is exactly what the art needs rather than a double mat that generally reveals 1/4" of the underlying mat all around. The color core mats come in a variety of top and core shades to meet the most demanding framing projects.
