Padre Island by artist Lily Tanzer

A summer outing on Padre Island in 2008 offered a treasured moment: my father and son engrossed in the hunt for shells. I stood between them capturing the photo: three generations on a beach that held a special place in my father's heart and life. It would be ten years later when I stood in almost that same spot, three days after my father's passing, looking out to the horizon and feeling my father's presence in the immensity of the setting sun. That was where I said my goodbye.
