Brief Bio

Photography as an Illusion

Hi, I’m Charlie Kreitler. I’ve been taking “pictures” forever (50 + years). In the 90’s I started photographing digitally and working with Photoshop. Photoshop became my dark room. This opened up a new world of photography. It permitted me to create illusions from my photographs. rather than accurate documentations as do many photographers.

I spent two years in “Covid isolation” reading about painting and photography. They are quite similar. They are visual expressions, born from the same mother, but with different fathers. Photography often is the precise documentation of the real world. Painting is more interpretive. This difference motivated me to create photographs with a strong artistic touch. I’m never sure what an image will look like until it is “final’. This makes the whole process an adventure. They all start as photographs, but end as “illusions”. Enjoy!
