I try to capture reflections and insights in my figurative paintings and portraits as their subjects ponder who they are and how their lives are woven into the larger fabric of society and nature.
In still life and landscapes I try to capture an expansive connection, whether it be inward or outward. I love strong light and deep shadows. To me the combination is a metaphor for the contrast between the noisy day-to-day events and the deeper wellspring of intuition and knowledge we all strive for.
There is an underlying structure of reality which bubbles forth and supports all that we see and experience. I see my purpose as an artist to illuminate that structure in a way that allows people looking at my paintings to catch an emotional glimpse of their own underlying reality.
