Doug graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University College of Architecture while working as a NCAA Sports Photojournalist for United Press International and Associated Press. LaRue became a Medical Illustrator at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. His education continued through workshops offered to state agencies including the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Advanced Airbrush workshop at the Smithsonian Institute of Natural History in Washington, D.C. Doug’s career has always included elements artistic expression through conceptual design in a variety of genres. He has designed commercial architecture, designed and published books, designed and published magazines, produced films, art directed feature films, wrote and directed a Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) independent film and even in appeared in a few studio movies. LaRue’s artwork is in private collections worldwide and is included in The Wittliff Collections at Texas State University Albert B. Alkek Library and the Forsyth Gallery Collections at Texas A&M University and included in group shows at the Texas State Capitol and Austin City Hall.
