Ebony Dailey is a self-taught painter based in Austin, Texas, who works primarily with acrylics on canvas. Her work is deeply personal. Each piece reflects fragments of her own experiences, emotions, and identity. Often, the figures that emerge on her canvases bear a striking resemblance to her, a reflection of her introspective creative process. She believes in color and how it uplifts the spirit. Her paintings can easily fit in both the aesthetic spaces of today, and the colorful rooms of creatives.
Ebony’s inspiration arrives spontaneously. Most of her paintings begin as intuitive streaks of color, which are free, unplanned movements that evolve into expressive figures as she follows her instincts. Originally drawn to pour painting, she discovered her voice by allowing the medium to lead her, transforming abstract beginnings into deeply human forms. This can be seen in pieces like "One Sultry Kiss" and "In a Sentimental Mood."
Though she playfully admits she “can’t draw,” Ebony’s art proves that expression transcends traditional technique. Her pieces embody authenticity, fluidity, and an honest connection between feeling and form.
Beyond the studio, Ebony is the Director of Human Resources for a lithium and nuclear start-up. This contrasts with her creative world yet fuels her appreciation for balance, intuition, and human connection. As an African American woman artist in Texas, she views painting as a deeply fulfilling hobby and uses it as a way to feel, release, and translate life into color.
