I was born in Iceland the year the legend in chess Bobby Fischer beat Boris Spassky in Reykjavik - 1972. The same year I moved to Alaska with my parents. They must have seen that Iceland was not big enough for two legends holding the same name.
The first four years of my life I spent in Alaska but some things aren't meant to last and back to Iceland I went. The high school years I spent in Iceland but the summers I spent in Texas thawing out. I truly like the warmer climate better.
I moved to Texas in 93'. Come winter 1995 I decided to go back and visit for Christmas and do some skiing. That's when I met my wife and yup I'm still living in Iceland.
We have two girls - 18 and 13 years of age. I studied carpentry at the college in my home town Keflavik. For the last two years have now been teaching carpentry skills. Funny how things work out in life - a "c" student later in life becomes a teacher.
Most of my career has been building houses from ground up and remodeling some. I have always been challenging my self and stepping out of the comfort zone doing things out of curiosity just to see if I can do it.
In the past my wife usually got a laugh if I got an idea of making something. Some three years ago I was driving to a job in the country and saw something there was my first idea that got me into creating art.
I really don't know where my ideas come from I guess it is from seeing things in my surroundings, buildings, nature, people. Just everyday life. Ideas come to me mostly as I'm driving in the magnificent nature of Iceland.
Anyway first piece I was gonna make was an hexagonal basalt rock replica. Called my wife and told her. She laughed.
Well now some three years later I have flipped my garage into a studio. I have not taken part in art shows before but during our annual culture weekend in my hometown I have opened my studio were people can stop in from the cold and have themselves a glass of wine or coffee and look at my work - some even buy a piece or two.
