Claire Smith is an emerging young artist from Monroe, LA. Trained in studio art, she experiments with contemporary still life and the abstraction of space and color.

Smith has a B.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications and a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Mississippi. After completing her studies, she pursued a career in corporate marketing until summer of 2018 when she moved to Austin, TX to pursue the path of arts administration. She currently works as a studio assistant for two professional and noted artists in the Austin area. While working, she also learns and studies under them enabling her to explore and grow in the world of professional art.

As a developing artist, Smith is still exploring and evolving her creative abilities. Inspired by artists such as Hans Hofmann and Paul Klee, her paintings, both realism and abstract, investigate the combination of color and pattern. There is the constant attempt to push color and depth to the extreme while still maintaining some stance of believable form. Smith’s goal is to create a world that envelops her viewer into a mix of confusion, wonderment and somehow a still seemingly coherent reality.
