Before art, there was X-ray technology, ultrasound and finally accounting. I have been a collector of art since the early 80’s and eventually I could not resist the urge to create my own. Since 1999, I have been taking classes and workshops from local and national instructors, including attending the American School of Bookbinding in Telluride, CO. I restore old books and create artist books, journals and fine bindings as well as paintings in pastel and oil.

Painting has become a much larger part of my life since 2005. I find beauty in almost every aspect of life and enjoy painting landscapes, seascapes, still life and florals. The perpetual contest between nature and the man-made is a never-ending source of interest. Nature always wins and I love documenting that fact.

It is my love of nature that inspires the art. I feel a deep pull to represent the beauty that I see in all aspects of creation. The use of vibrant color is the one consistent factor across all subjects and medium. Color is the first thing to capture my eye and draw me to a subject followed by texture. I love to photograph locations during my travels and then recreate the experience once back in the studio.
